Mathijs van den Adel

Founder & General Partner — GeoPlanPartners B.V.

Mathijs van den Adel is the founder and General Partner of GeoPlanPartners. He is based in the Netherlands but spends roughly two-thirds of his time on the ground in Ethiopia, Uganda and Mozambique — living on both sides of the corridor the fund invests in.

Trained as a modeller at Wageningen University and Deltares, with earlier research positions at GNS Science in New Zealand and the University of Sydney, he applies quantitative, market-bound analysis to venture diligence.

His core work is investment scoping for governments (Netherlands, EU, East African ministries) and banks including the IFC, with a focus on innovation and international trade. Alongside this he leads due diligence, raises capital for corporates, and structures blended finance.

On the operator side, he sources, designs and pilots solar and IoT systems with local SMEs across East Africa, giving him first-hand insight into what scaling actually costs in pre-competitive markets.

Growth-stage companies in East Africa are underserved — not by capital, but by capital partners who understand both the European LP perspective and the reality on the ground.
